India exports to Libya are tea, tobacco, agricultural commodities, engineering goods, chemicals, drugs & pharmaceuticals, textiles, manufactures of metals and jute products, India imports are fertilizers and organic chemicals. Libyan crude oil is not suited to our requirements.
During the oil boom years, several public and private sector Indian companies participated in construction and development activities in Libya. In late 1970s, Indian companies were involved in projects in Libya worth more than US$ 2 billion. A large number of doctors, nurses, engineers, university professors and workers were employed in Libya. By the early 1980s, their number had touched a peak of 40,000.
Cultural Relations
28. Libyan draft of Executive Programme for Scientific Information and Cultural Cooperation between India and Libya for the years 1998-99 2000 is being examined by the Department of Culture, Ministry of Human Resource Development. Their response is awaited.

Visa Procedure
Visitors require a visa, normally valid for 3 months and to be used within 45 days of issue.
Visa allocation is carefully controlled, and mostly confined to those actually working in Libya.
Main Tourist Attraction
The first place that comes en route to Tripoli, is the magnificent World Heritage site of Sabratah (Sabrata, Sabratha) located on the beautiful Mediterranean coastline.
Libya attractions to the tourist is in the rich archaeological sites centered along the Mediterranean Sea, in the desert in areas like Ghaddames, 300 Kms. south of Tripoli.
